Here's your guide to registering products in Ohio.
Which product types to register
In Ohio, you'll need to register:
- Beer
- Wine
- Spirits (only 21% ABV and under are handled through PRO)
How to register your products
- If you have a new brand, register it as a New Brand.
- If you have a new COLA under an existing brand, register it as a Revision.
- Ohio refers to line extensions as revisions (which are not the same as TTB Allowable Revisions). For this type of registration, a Previous Approval Number is required, which can be found on Ohio's active brands page.
- If you make changes to a label or product that don't require a new COLA, you don't need to register it again.
Distributor and license information
Wholesale products require distributor and territory assignment as part of label registration. If you need to indicate partial distribution within a county, click the green Full button, which will switch it from Full to Partial. A text box will appear where you must enter comments describing the partial territory. Be as specific as possible by using cities, townships, villages, streets, or highways to describe how the county is divided up for distribution (for example, east of Smith street).
You may also indicate that you self-distribute and/or sell direct-to-consumer in the Distribution step of the registration process. If you only self-distribute or sell direct-to-consumer, distributor and territory designations are not required.
Labels distributed both wholesale and direct-to-consumer should be registered under your wholesale license. Labels distributed via both channels only need to be registered once.
Required documents
- Brand Acquisition Letter (if you answered yes to Are you registering a label because you just recently acquired this brand?)
- Trade Name Document (if you answered yes to Does this brand operate a trade name owned by you?)
- Bottling Letter (if you answered no to Do you bottle this brand?)
- Brand Owner Authorization Letter (if you answered no to Are you the brand producer?)
- Distributor Appointment Letter, for each distributor, if you're registering wholesale products
Renewals
Renewals are not required in Ohio.
