Filing an amended return

If you realize that information on one of your filed returns has changed or was missing, you'll need to file an amended return. You may realize that your return was incorrect on your own, or a state may contact you about missing or incorrect information.

When information on one of your reports changes, you'll see an orange Fix button appear next to it.

  1. Click the Fix button next to the report with changes, then click Download to download the changed report.

  2. File your amended return:
    1. eFile: Go to your AutoFile Settings to find a link to the relevant state website and your login credentials. Submit your changed return according to the state process.
    2. Paper: On your changed return, you'll find address and check payment information for the state (usually at the top or bottom of the PDF). Mail your amended return according to this information. Be sure to indicate on the return that it is amended, by checking any applicable box or otherwise filling out the appropriate fields.

    3. Email: On your changed return, locate the email address for the state and submit your return to this address. If you can't find an email address, contact AutoFile or the applicable state department.
